Trafficking and slavery is a hidden crime that targets the most vulnerable in our society. Police forces will continue to work hard to protect victims and prosecute offenders.
National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for Modern Slavery Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said:
“Trafficking and slavery is a hidden crime that often targets the most vulnerable in our society, resulting in exploitation and inhumane suffering. Police forces have worked hard to understand and recognise the signs of trafficking to prevent further harm for victims.
“It is encouraging to see increased levels of reporting with more victims and members of the wider community feeling confident to come forward. We will continue to work hard to raise awareness of this crime. The NCA report will help us to increase understanding of the true nature and scale of human trafficking to protect victims and prosecute offenders.”
