The Policing Minister has today announced in the provisional police funding formula which underlines the commitment from police leadership towards reform and transformation.
National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead for Finance and Resources, Chief Constable David Thompson said:
“Chief officers welcome the continuing commitment made last year to protect police funding so that we can keep protecting the public.
“The Police Transformation Fund is playing a crucial part in helping the service to modernise and implement our Policing Vision 2025. Threats are changing and police leaders are meeting them by driving forward the pace, scale and ambition of reform.
“While today’s settlement does maintain the level of central government police funding this cannot be reviewed in isolation. We have argued publicly that variations in funding are driven much more by historic precept levels than national grants and so a comprehensive review should take both elements into account. We will continue to work closely with the Government and elected PCCs to improve local accountability for police funding decisions.
