National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) Lead for Information Management, Chief Constable Mike Barton, has been responding to the report of an HMIC inspection on Information Management - 'Building the Picture'
CC Barton said: “Since the inspection leading to this report was carried out in September 2013, many improvements have been made to the management of police information and, as we move forward, will continue to be made. These include a series of workshops organised in partnership with the Home Office to run over the next two days bringing together technology and policing experts to devise a clear strategy for ICT development across the service.
“Working with the College of Policing, the Police ICT Company and the Home Office we are making our information management systems more effective, efficient and consistent so that we’ll be able to address the HMIC recommendations within the timescales requested.
“Information is the lifeblood of policing, helping to keep the public safe. It is our duty to ensure we have the information we need to help us prevent and detect crime but also that it is managed in an accountable manner in which people can have confidence.”
