NPCC lead on undercover policing, Temporary Chief Constable Jon Boutcher, has given the service's take on the Home Secretary's announcement of the remit of Lord Justice Pitchford's inquiry into undercover policing.
T/CC Boutcher said:
"The police service welcomes today's announcement and will cooperate fully with the inquiry.
“It should be remembered that undercover policing has and continues to protect the public from our most dangerous criminals. We have recognised that improvements should be made, and those involved in undercover policing are working tirelessly to make sure that we improve the tactic to provide the public with the reassurance they deserve regarding how undercover work is authorised and conducted. We are keen to engage with Lord Justice Pitchford and his team to build upon the improvements already being delivered and to ensure this vital tactic is delivered to the highest possible standard."
