The National Police Chiefs' Council has responded to the report by HMICFRS regarding police leadership.
National Police Chiefs' Council Lead for Workforce, Chief Constable Giles York said:
“I am heartened by the findings of the HMICFRS Leadership Report 2017 which goes a long way to recognise the hard work so many forces have invested, at such a challenging time, to improve the working culture within policing and create an environment in which our officers and staff can best serve their communities.
“It shows that our senior officers and staff are listening to feedback and creating an environment where innovation and new ideas can flourish, while placing greater emphasis on the mental and physical wellbeing of our workforce.
“There is still some way to go, and crucially all our leaders must ensure that the most vulnerable people in our society can rely on the police to recognise when they need help and protect them from harm.
“We are committed to do this by continually improving our performance management and investing in our workforce wellbeing and development, which will equip our future leaders with the skills they need to guide our forces through yet further challenging years to come.”
