NPCC statement following police shooting in Lambeth
Following the fatal police shooting in Lambeth, Chief Constable Simon Chesterman, NPCC National Lead for Armed Policing, said:
“I offer my condolences to the family and friends of Chris Kaba.
“The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has announced a homicide investigation, and the firearms officer involved has been suspended from duty.
“Firearms officers understand the level of accountability and scrutiny that follows what is often a split-second decision made under intense pressure and annually, respond to around 20,000 calls across the UK.
“The IOPC must now be afforded the opportunity to independently establish the facts of the case.”
