National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Lead on Roads Policing, Chief Constable Suzette Davenport, has responded to an RAC report that outlines a reduction in mobile phone offences over the past five years.
“There is no getting away from the fact that the last five years has seen a 23% reduction in specialist roads policing officers but I do not accept that the police are doing less as a service to enforce the law on our roads network.
"We are utterly dedicated to keeping our roads safe through a calendar of regular enforcement operations alongside routine enforcement. Last year, we conducted over 700,000 roadside breath tests, issued 1.15m Fixed Penalty Notices for motoring offences and diverted thousands of people into education programmes."
