The NPCC welcomes the consultation on new measures to better protect victims of stalking launched by the Government.
National Police Chiefs’ Council lead on Stalking and Harassment Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said:
“I welcome this consultation and the development of a new civil order which will offer better opportunities to protect victims of stalking by placing controls on the perpetrator. We recognise the devastating effect that stalking and harassment can have on victims’ lives and remain focused and committed to improving training, guidance and our overall response.”
“Stalkers employ a wide variety of tactics to harass their victims and it is vital that the police and our partners are equipped to deal with these crimes as early as possible to prevent harm. A new civil order will not replace prosecution but could contribute to protecting victims earlier.“
