The Investigatory Powers Act received royal assent today. Police chiefs say they are preparing for implementation of the Act.
National Police Chiefs' Council Lead for Communications Data, Assistant Chief Constable Richard Berry said:
"We are working across law enforcement and with the Home Office to make the necessary changes to our processes and to inform and train our staff ready for implementation of the Act. Necessity, proportionality and ethics will be at the heart of our approach to the updated powers working within a robust new oversight regime."
