Several forces across the country will observe a minute silence today (Monday June 27) to mark the first anniversary of the terrorist attack in Tunisia.
Police officers and staff will be joining government officials as they pay their respects to the 38 people who were killed during the atrocity - 30 of which were British citizens.
On 26 June 2015, shortly before midday, holiday makers were attacked at the Imperial Royal Marharba Hotel, a Tunisian beach hotel in the resort of Port El Kantoui in Sousse. The victims were all targeted on the Tunisian beach and within the hotel grounds. The June incident followed an earlier attack in Tunisia which saw British national, Sally Jane Adey, killed on 18 March 2015 at the Bardo Museum in Tunis.
The inquest into the deaths of the British citizens was opened and adjourned in front of His Honour Judge (HHJ) Nicholas Loraine-Smith, until 16 January 2017.
The Metropolitan Police is currently assisting with the forthcoming inquest hearing, while officers throughout the country continue to offer support to bereaved families and to those who were seriously injured during the attack.
The minute’s silence will be observed across government buildings, New Scotland Yard, and several forces across the UK, starting at 11.59am.
