Statement by DCC Rob Griffin, who is leading the police review of the public inquiry findings.
"Following the conclusion of the Infected Blood Inquiry in 2024, policing commissioned a review to examine whether a criminal investigation should be undertaken.
"A senior major crime investigator has led this review, examining the detailed findings of the public inquiry to see whether they meet the bar for a criminal investigation and potential prosecution.
“Given the scale and complexity of the information, the review focused on events at Treloar’s School in Alton, Hampshire - the subject of a specific chapter in the Public Inquiry report. It was hoped that a review of this chapter alone would provide sufficient information to determine whether a criminal investigation would be viable.
"However, that has not been the case, and terms of reference are now being developed for a further review of the remaining chapters.
"In the meantime we have also sought advice from the Crown Prosecution Service regarding the relevant legislation, and have engaged police forces to establish what information is held locally to inform our review.
“We know those affected are anxiously awaiting the outcome of our review, and further additional delay - while absolutely necessary - is both unfortunate and regrettable. We remain committed to ensuring that our analysis is thorough, careful and robust before reaching any conclusions.”
