The UK Missing Persons Bureau's annual data reports for missing episodes offer forces preliminary analysis into the scale of missing people within the UK.
National Police Chiefs' Council lead for Adult Missing Persons Chief Constable Mike Veale said:
“These data reports offer us a preliminary analysis into the scale of missing people within the UK and I look forward to the full report and assessment in March 2016.
“This initial information does indicate a rise in the number of missing person reports. When further analysis of this data has been done I will work with our partners in other statutory agencies and charities to find effective long-term solutions.
“It must be remembered that going missing is often a symptom of other challenges in people’s lives. We must work together to address those challenges and prevent further missing episodes taking place. The police service is committed to doing as much as we can to safeguard the vulnerable and return missing people to their loved ones.”
