The second submission to the Police Remuneration Review Body provides an update on the context in which policing operates and highlights the need to ensure that any decisions taken now support and develop the framework for the future.
National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead for Pay and Conditions, Chief Constable Francis Habgood said:
“Chiefs have been tasked with developing a workforce model for the future and whilst the financial settlement for policing was more favourable than had been expected there is still a requirement for reform. This 2016 submission highlights the need to ensure that any decisions taken now support and develop the framework for the future.
“Our recommendation of a 1 per cent non-consolidated increase would enable longer term reform whilst recognising the immediate financial concerns of officers.
“Further analysis will also be given to the policing of public holidays. Policing requirements on these days has grown and we will explore options of replacing payment with additional annual leave days. This option has already been adopted with the agreement of all parties in Scotland.”
