Counter Terrorism Officer Pledge Support on International Women's Day

Female counter terrorism police officers and staff across England and Wales have today (8th March) joined together in an online film to pledge their support for International Women's Day and reaffirm their commitment to protecting women and girls from the threat of radicalisation.

The pledge, which is hosted on the Prevent Tragedies website, (www.preventtragedies.co.uk) will be supported by social media activity and seeks to encourage people to visit the site for support and advice for families concerned about radicalisation.

International Women's Day will also be marked with the launch of a new Prevent Tragedies Communities Conversation initiative. The online product, in the form of a postcard, will encourage women to have community conversations about radicalisation. The postcard, and associated toolkit, is available to download from the Prevent Tragedies website in a range of languages. It can be printed out and displayed at public venues and engagement events and will give women the ability to discuss the sensitive subject of radicalisation at home and within their communities.

Senior National Coordinator for CT Policing , Helen Ball said:

"International Women's Day reminds us of our commitment to continue to raise awareness of the issue of radicalisation in the UK and to highlight our concern at the number of women and girls who continue to travel to Syria. Radicalisation is a very real concern and is not something that any of us can ignore. The Prevent Tragedies campaign seeks to provide help and advice for anyone who is worried about a loved one and concerned they are considering travelling to Syria. The campaign aims to safeguard women and men and help them make positive choices about their lives. Anyone who has concerns can contact their local police or call 101 for help and advice, so that, together, we can prevent more tragedies."

Prevent Tragedies is a police and partner website which provides advice and support for families with concerns about radicalisation or loved ones who may be considering travel to Syria.
