Chief officer recruitment

National Police Chiefs’ Council Chair, Chief Constable Sara Thornton said:

“We have been working with the College of Policing for the last year to help ensure that we have sufficient quantity and quality of chief officers to lead police forces into the future.

“On 22 March, the Home Office wrote to the National Police Chiefs’ Council asking for our view on changes to chief constable appointments. We are preparing a response but will be clear on the need for a sound understanding of the rationale and practicalities before embarking on what would be a significant change.”
