Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner has announced that she has suspended Chief Constable Nick Gargan while the process that requires him to resign from his post begins.
As CC Gargan is now suspended, he can no longer carry out work for the National Police Chiefs’ Council.
Further information on the project CC Gargan was working on for the NPCC - previous statement about CC Gargan’s work with the NPCC:
National Police Chiefs Council Chair (NPCC) Chair Sara Thornton said:
“Chief Constable Nick Gargan is doing some national work on how police forces can use technology to save money. This has been agreed with Avon and Somerset Police Crime Commissioner, Sue Mountstevens following careful consideration on both sides.
“This decision does not affect the Avon and Somerset misconduct process in any way. It is a practical decision taken in the public interest to enable CC Nick Gargan to contribute to national policing prior to returning to Avon and Somerset.”
Further information:
All of CC Gargan’s costs will be paid by Avon and Somerset. He is working remotely.
