ACPO response to news reports about President's salary

18 Mar 2011

"Sir Hugh Orde, President of ACPO, has not received a pay increase of £27,000.

"He is salaried at the same rate that he received in his previous post as Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland. This reflects a pre-existing arrangement that the President of ACPO should be paid at either the average of all Chief Constables, or at the rate received in their previous post, whichever was the higher. The President of ACPO, who holds the rank of Chief Constable under the Police Reform Act 2002, represents the professional voice of policing to Government and this arrangement was designed to ensure the most senior chiefs are not discouraged from applying for the post. Over the next two years, the pay freeze across the public sector will also apply to ACPO."
