The Home Office Alcohol Strategy Consultation begins today and it includes various strategies to tackle misuse, one of which is minimum unit pricing
ACPO lead on alcohol and licensing Chief Constable Adrian Lee said:
“Alcohol has an enormous impact on policing services through alcohol-related crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.
“Police forces across the country are currently planning their staffing arrangements for another busy Christmas period. Forces will be committing a significant number of frontline officers into policing town centre pubs and clubs, resources which could otherwise be employed dealing with other crime.
“Alcohol misuse ruins lives and has a huge impact on society and ACPO fully supports changes that will not only reduce crime but also alcohol-related illness and deaths and we will be contributing to the consultation.”
